The tepary bean has been handed down for countless generations amongst Ramona's Akimel O’Odham (River People, Pima) people and their cousins, the Tohono O’Odham (Desert People). The bavi (O'Odham for tepary bean) is high in soluble fiber and protein and is a low glycemic index food.
Grown and processed by Ramona Farms, owned by Ramona and Terry Button of the Akimel O'odham (Pima) people on the Gila River Indian Reservation in Arizona. Ramona Farms has been a pioneering force in reviving traditional Indigenous crops since the 1970s.
