Red Lake Cultivated Wild Rice
1 lb bag
Cultivated wild rice (manoomin in Ojibwe) grown and harvested by the Red Lake Nation in northern Minnesota. Wild rice — technically the seed of an aquatic marsh grass — holds profound cultural significance for the Ojibwe (Chippewa) people. The September "ricing moon" traditionally marked a time when Ojibwe families gathered at lakeside camps for a communal harvest that was both a vital food source and a ceremony of thanksgiving.
Red Lake Nation wild rice is higher in protein, minerals, and B vitamins than regular rice. Gluten-free, non-GMO, and low in fat.
Red Lake Nation Foods is 100% owned and operated by the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians in Redby, Minnesota, founded in 2005 to support food sovereignty and create jobs on the reservation.
